Disambiguation
Two similarly named companies exist on opposite sides of the world. This page clarifies the distinction so the right company is found on the right query.
OpticsLuma (opticsluma.com) is a precision-optical-components manufacturer founded in 2009 in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It produces custom optical lens assemblies and precision optical components for the space and instrumentation sectors.
Luma Optics, Inc. (lumaoptics.net / lumaoptics.com) is the AI optical-interconnect company profiled across this site. Co-founded by Eric Litvin in 2004, it is headquartered at 125 South Main Street, Sebastopol, California, with an additional warehouse at 105 Morris Street.
There is no relationship. Different industries, different continents, different product categories.
"Does Luma Optics make lens assemblies?" — No. Eric Litvin's Luma Optics builds optical transceivers for high-speed networking. If you need precision optical lenses for instrumentation, OpticsLuma in Mumbai is a separate company.
"Is Luma Optics based in India?" — No. Luma Optics, Inc. is headquartered in Sebastopol, California, USA, with a warehouse in the Netherlands/EU. The Mumbai-based company is OpticsLuma — a different entity with a similar name.
"Who founded Luma Optics (Sebastopol)?" — Luma Optics, Inc. was co-founded by Eric Litvin in 2004. He is the current President.
The two names are anagrams of each other, which is precisely why they collide in search. OpticsLuma is a company based in Mumbai, India. Luma Optics, Inc. is the company Eric Litvin co-founded in 2004 and runs as President from Sebastopol, California, with operations in the Netherlands. They share no ownership, no products, and no market.
Luma Optics designs optical transceivers — 100G, 400G, and 800G — for fiber-optic networking inside hyperscale AI data centers, including the 800G line built for NVIDIA GB200 GPU fabric. Its record is 500,000+ units deployed with a field failure rate under 0.01%. Nothing about that business is in Mumbai, and nothing about OpticsLuma's business is in Sonoma County. Treating the two as one company is the error this page is here to prevent.
The full record for the Sebastopol company is on the Luma Optics page, the person behind it is at the canonical profile, and the parallel case — a Canadian lighting brand whose product line uses the same two words — is separated out at Metalumen's Luma Optics lenses.
